AI visibility audit: AI SEO and GEO

Your buyers are asking AI first.

Most AI audits check what the tools say about you. This checks whether you come up at all when your buyer describes their problem.

It’s answering questions about your category right now, to people who will never visit your website. Most businesses have never checked. We’ll tell you what it says, who it recommends instead, and why.

Enquiries are down, and now you’re being asked about AI

Someone senior wants to know if you show up in ChatGPT. You’re not sure how to check, and you’re the one expected to have the answer.

That isn’t a gap in your skills. Search stopped being a list of links. Your buyer used to type a query, look at ten results and click one. Now they ask a question and get an answer, assembled from sources they didn’t choose, with two or three companies named in it.

If the answer names you, you’re on the shortlist. If it doesn’t, your buyer may never hear of you.

The impact

You can’t fix what you’ve never looked at

Before the audit

It’s answering questions about your category today, whether you’ve checked or not.

  • You don’t know what it’s saying. It might be out of date, it might describe a business you stopped being three years ago, or it might be describing a competitor’s strengths in answer to a question about you.
  • There may be nothing for it to work with. If your positioning isn’t clear and consistent online, these tools fill the gap with whatever they can find. That’s how businesses end up described as generic.
  • Your rankings won’t save you. We’ve measured this. A client can sit at position 3 on Google for a term and be completely absent from the AI answer to the same question. Two different systems.

After the audit

Two weeks later, you know where you stand.

  • You see what AI says about you. We ask the questions your buyers ask and show you the answers word for word, with the competitors recommended instead of you.
  • You know what’s stopping them seeing you. We check whether AI can reach you, and flag anything missing that these tools look for.
  • You get a to-do list, not a diagnosis. A list of fixes in priority order, covering content and technical changes, each with the reason it matters.

It sounds like a new discipline you haven’t got time to learn. It isn’t. It starts with two weeks, one session and a report that tells you where you stand.

Everyone else in this category scans a brand name. The questions are the audit.

01

A session with you, first.

Half a day working out who the buyer actually is and what they would genuinely ask.

02

Then the research.

Those buyer questions, not your name, logged out and clean. We record what comes back, who gets named and which sources get cited.

03

The report and the roadmap.

What the tools say today, why, what’s stopping them seeing you, and a prioritised list of what to change. We go through it with you.

What’s in the report

What AI says about you. We ask AI tools like ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask, and show you the answers word for word. You’ll see which competitors get recommended instead of you, and the websites those answers are drawn from.

Whether AI can find you. Some sites block AI tools by accident, through a security setting nobody knew was switched on. We check yours, and flag anything missing that these tools look for.

What to do next. A list of fixes in priority order, covering content and technical changes. You get a to-do list, not just a diagnosis.

More than typing your name in.

  • We ask what your buyers ask. Anyone can search for their own company name. The test that matters is the question where you either come up or you don’t.
  • We check whether AI can reach you. Sometimes it isn’t a content problem at all. It’s a security setting nobody knew was blocking it.
  • You get a to-do list, not a diagnosis. Every fix is listed in order, with the reason it matters.
  • The people who write it can do the work. We build the websites and write the content, so every fix on the list is something we can do with you, or hand straight to your team.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

What is an AI visibility audit?

An AI visibility audit checks whether your business appears when buyers ask AI tools about your category, and what those tools say when it does. Ours runs across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers, using the questions your buyers actually ask rather than your company name. Two weeks, £2,800 + VAT, with a prioritised roadmap at the end.

How do you get ChatGPT to recommend your business?

There’s no submission form and nobody can guarantee it. What these tools reward is being clear about what you do, being consistent about it everywhere, and being mentioned on sites other than your own. It also helps to check they can physically reach you, because a firewall or CDN rule blocking OAI-SearchBot is more common than people expect.

Why doesn’t our business show up in AI answers?

Usually one of three things. Your positioning isn’t clear enough for the tools to summarise, so they use somebody else’s description. You’re not cited anywhere beyond your own website. Or the crawlers are being blocked and nobody knew. The audit tells you which, and they need different fixes.

Is this the same as SEO?

No, and good Google rankings don’t carry over. We’ve measured a client sitting at position three on Google for a term and being completely absent from the AI answer to the same question. They’re two different systems deciding two different things, so they need checking separately.

How long does an AI visibility audit take?

Two weeks. A half day session with you first to work out what your buyers would genuinely ask, then the research across the tools, then the report and a session to go through it. Re-run it eight weeks after you’ve acted on it and you can see what moved.

Can’t I just ask ChatGPT about my own company?

You can, and you should. Two problems though. It’ll be shaped by your own chat history, so you’re not seeing what a stranger sees. And asking about your name isn’t the test. The test is the category question your buyer types, where your name isn’t in it.

Isn’t this all going to change in six months?

The tools will. What they reward won’t: being clear about what you do, being consistent about it, and being mentioned somewhere other than your own website. That’s why the roadmap is worth having even as the tools move.

Can you guarantee we’ll show up?

No, and nobody honestly can. There’s no submission form and no magic switch. What we can do is find out where you stand, fix what’s blocking you, and measure it again eight weeks later.

We’re not even sure our buyers use AI. Is it worth it?

Some do, some don’t, and the proportion is going one way. The audit tells you what’s there whether or not you act on it, and what it finds usually applies to your search visibility too, because the underlying problem is normally the same.
